NGC 7635Commonly known as the "Bubble" Nebula, this is an area of emission nebulosity ionized by the star
BD+60°2522. Presently weighing in at 45 M⊙ (solar masses) it has thrown off 15 M⊙ of matter, which has interacted with its surrounding interstellar medium to create a distinctive bubble shape. The rate of expansion of NGC 7635 (36 km/s) suggests that it pre-dates the age of BD+60°2522, and that a previous bubble has already expanded and merged with the existing interstellar medium.
DATA/PROCESSINGThe data for this galaxy was provided by the RASC Robotic Telescope, and was imaged in the late summer and fall of 2020. Over 22 hours of SII, H-alpha and OIII were collected, along with RGB stars. This data was a pleasure to work with, and the most challenging aspects of processing were reducing star halos in the OIII channel and combining the channels to create a pleasing colour scheme. Ultimately, I used a 50/50 blend of SHO and Foraxx palettes. Many thanks to the RASC imaging team for the excellent data!
